In addition to avoiding the psychoactive properties of THC, cannabidiol (CBD) has its own unique health benefits. CBD-rich plants have a long history of use dating back to the Victorian era where it was used to treat pain, appetite, anxiety, nausea, menstrual cramps, and even reduce seizures. CBD-rich varieties of plants have become more and more difficult to get as many farmers tried to grow higher THC content, rather than the CBD strains. Tod Mikuriya, MD and founder of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians expected that farmers in California would be able to re-grow strains of CBD-rich and test laboratories help us to help in the search for strains that are higher CBD than THC. There have been more and more studies involving CBD recently by the International Association of Medicine cannabinoids and other accredited associations. Many doctors based in California have been housed in the top of the reports on this new drug in order to better help their patients. In 2009 Steep Hill Lab Oakland tested several different strains of plants and finally found some that were higher in the CBD than THC. Now there are several different testing laboratories for the CBD instead of THC. Strains high in labeled CBD were originally found to contain 4% Cannnabidol when measured by the dry weight of the plant. Very recently, certain strains being tested as high as with compounds containing 20 to 1 proportion of the drug. These plants high ratio made possible the extraction of the CBD. Now oils and other types of medicine suitable for human consumption CBD are being produced and prescribed to patients across the country.
